We examined the MITIGATE study, focusing on the effects of icosapent ethyl (IPE), a purified omega-3 fatty acid, in adults with cardiovascular disease at risk for viral upper respiratory infections.
With about 16,500 participants, this clinical trial compared IPE treatment against usual care. The goal was to see if IPE could lessen the severity and impact of viral infections over six months.
Unfortunately, there was no significant evidence found that IPE improved outcomes for upper respiratory infections in this group.

DHA/ARA reduces colds and allergies
The impact of early nutrition on incidence of allergic manifestations and common respiratory illnesses in children.
We investigated whether feeding infants formula supplemented with docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (ARA) could impact the development of allergies and respiratory illnesses until age three.
In a well-structured, randomized, double-blind study, we followed children who received either supplemented or nonsupplemented formulas during their first year of life. Our findings showed that those on the DHA/ARA formula had significantly lower chances of developing upper respiratory infections and common allergic diseases.
Notably, the DHA/ARA group experienced a delayed onset and reduced incidence of respiratory issues, indicating potential benefits of early nutrition on long-term health.

I’ve been taking this Omega-3 for a year and a half, and I find it exceptional. The optimal EPA and DPA ratio, along with vitamin D, means I have not caught a cold in over a year! Although I was exposed to the virus, my body managed to cope without developing a full-blown illness. Remarkably, I no longer suffer from sinusitis, which had troubled me for ten years. This change feels miraculous, and I’m thrilled with the results, including rapid hair growth.

Omega 3 has been a staple in my household for a long time. I find the advantages of this brand are remarkable, especially as it includes essential vitamin D3. I take one capsule daily from a 180-pack, which lasts the whole season when colds are prevalent. Previously, I struggled with the common cold and winter ailments like a runny nose and fatigue. Since I started taking Omega 3, I have felt a significant reduction in discomfort, dry skin, and lethargy. My friends and family also reported improvements in their health last season. The only downside is the large size of the capsules, which can be challenging to swallow.

I am very pleased with this Omega-3; it’s not my first time ordering from this brand. The high dosage, along with vitamin D, is a bonus. A large bottle containing 180 capsules lasts nearly two months for my family of three. After one month, I noticed increased energy and significantly fewer colds affecting my family, which is encouraging news!
The common cold is a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, primarily affecting the nose and throat. It's caused by a variety of viruses, with rhinoviruses being the most prevalent. Symptoms generally include a runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, sneezing, mild headache, and sometimes a low-grade fever. While the common cold is often mild and resolves on its own within a week or two, it can still be bothersome and impact daily activities.
Transmission occurs through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or by touching surfaces contaminated with the virus. Preventative measures include frequent handwashing, using hand sanitizer, and avoiding close contact with infected individuals. Since there is currently no cure for the common cold, treatment focuses on symptom relief through over-the-counter medications, adequate rest, and hydration. While colds may be uncomfortable, they are generally not serious; however, seeking medical attention may be necessary if symptoms worsen or persist for an extended period.
Omega-3 fish oil is a nutritional supplement derived from the fatty tissues of fish, particularly fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines. It is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential fats that the body cannot produce on its own. The most significant types of omega-3s found in fish oil are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), both of which are known for their numerous health benefits. These include reducing inflammation, supporting heart health, and promoting brain function.
Incorporating omega-3 fish oil into your diet can be beneficial if you don’t consume enough fish regularly. Many health experts recommend oily fish as a part of a balanced diet due to their high omega-3 content. For those who find it difficult to include fish in their meals, fish oil supplements can offer a convenient alternative, providing the same essential fatty acids in concentrated form. However, it’s essential to choose high-quality supplements that are third-party tested for purity and potency to avoid contaminants such as heavy metals or other toxins that can impact health.
Based on user reviews, the time it typically takes to see results from taking this omega-3 supplement for the common cold varies. Some users report noticeable improvements within just a few days of starting the supplement. For example, one reviewer mentioned, "I noticed results within days," highlighting the quick impact it had on their health and the prevention of common colds Read Review. Other users have experienced benefits over a longer duration; one individual shared that after taking the supplement daily for a month, they noticed significantly fewer colds in their family Read Review.
Additionally, some users indicated that consistent long-term use led to overall health improvements and a noticeable reduction in cold occurrences. For instance, one reviewer stated their instances of the common cold "have virtually vanished" after consistently using the supplement Read Review. Meanwhile, another user experienced no seasonal colds after six months of use Read Review. Overall, it appears that you could start seeing results relatively quickly, but sustained benefits may require ongoing usage over several weeks to months.
The research surrounding supplements for managing the common cold yields mixed results. A study focusing on the purified omega-3 fatty acid, icosapent ethyl (IPE), found no significant evidence that it improved outcomes for upper respiratory infections among adults with cardiovascular disease. Conducted with over 16,500 participants, this clinical trial aimed to determine if IPE could lessen the severity of viral infections but ultimately showed no beneficial effect [1].
In contrast, another study explored the impact of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (ARA) in infant formulas, revealing positive outcomes. Infants who received the DHA/ARA supplemented formula exhibited significantly lower rates of upper respiratory infections and delayed onset of respiratory issues compared to those on nonsupplemented formulas. This suggests that early nutritional interventions could potentially assist in reducing common colds later in life [2]. While there is some indication that specific formulations may help in reducing incidence in infants, general omega-3 supplementation for the common cold lacks strong scientific support.
Users have shared a variety of positive experiences after incorporating this omega-3 supplement into their routines, emphasizing significant improvements in their overall health and immunity. For instance, one reviewer noted they had not caught a cold in over a year, despite exposure to viruses, and reported a miraculous reduction in sinusitis symptoms that had plagued them for a decade Read Review. Another individual similarly claimed their instances of the common cold "virtually vanished" after consistent use, highlighting the supplement's effectiveness in boosting the immune system Read Review.
Additionally, several users mentioned that their families experienced fewer colds and improved overall well-being after using this supplement. One reviewer noted their family of three saw significant reductions in cold occurrences, increased energy levels, and less discomfort from common winter ailments Read Review. Families have reported benefiting from the combination of omega-3 and vitamin D, with one individual observing that their children's concentration improved and they fell ill less often Read Review. As with any supplement, results can vary widely among individuals, but many users appear to have enjoyed notable health improvements.
Users have reported a variety of positive experiences when combining this omega-3 supplement with other vitamins, particularly vitamin D, for managing common colds. For instance, one user shared that their family experienced significantly fewer colds after incorporating omega-3 and vitamin D into their daily regimen, with the user stating, "after one month, I noticed increased energy and significantly fewer colds affecting my family" Read Review. Another review highlighted that their children seemed to fall ill less often after consistently taking omega-3 and vitamin D3 together Read Review.
Additionally, users praised the ease of use and effectiveness of these supplements when taken together. One reviewer remarked that their family remained illness-free during the cold season by maintaining a daily intake of these supplements Read Review. Another user noted their positive experience with the omega-3 supplement leading to no seasonal colds after consistent use Read Review. Overall, the consensus among users suggests that combining omega-3 with vitamin D not only supports the immune system but also contributes to better overall health during colder months.
Based on user reviews, it appears that a daily dose of one capsule of Omega 3 Fish Oil is commonly reported as effective for individuals looking to ward off the common cold. Several users, such as those in reviews Read Review and Read Review, indicated that they take one capsule daily, which they believe has played a crucial role in maintaining their health and preventing illness during cold seasons. Users like Read Review observed a significant boost in their immune systems and reported a noticeable decline in the instances of the common cold.
Additionally, some users suggested that increasing the dose to two capsules daily might yield even better results, as indicated in review Read Review. However, the majority sentiment leans towards one capsule being adequate for immune support and overall health, particularly when paired with the vitamin D3 often included in these supplements. Regardless of the specific dosage, consistent intake seems to correlate with fewer cold-related illnesses, as noted by multiple users.

Improved health
I reckon everyone is aware of the advantages of fish oil from a young age. However, my most vivid childhood memory is that drinking fish oil was quite unpleasant. These omega capsules are convenient and easy to swallow, and my entire family (children aged 7 and 11) takes them, particularly during the cold season. Omega-3 and vitamin D3 are taken every morning after breakfast – this is a steadfast rule for us. These vitamins complement one another, and after years of consuming omega-3, my skin remains clear of rashes! Notably, I've observed that my children's concentration has improved, and they seem to fall ill less often from viral infections. I wholeheartedly recommend this omega-3 dietary supplement from Ayherb!
